About Bassoonist Laura Koepke

Laura Koepke actively performs in New York City, and throughout the country. She received her Master's degree from Yale, and is Assistant Professor of Bassoon at SUNY - Fredonia.

In 2008, The Quintet of the Americas released its latest recording, SOUNDS OF BRAZIL, on the MSR label. The music includes choros, lullabies and songs by Gaudencio Thiago de Mello who performs with the Quintet on his unique organic percussion from the Amazon. The Quintet is proud to include Changes, a work they commissioned by Brazilian-American pianist and composer Marcelo Zarvos. Rounding out the CD is Ventos, another Quintet commission by a gifted young composer on the New York scene, Ricardo Romaneiro. Guest artists include Blair McMillen on piano and Scott Kuney on guitar.

• a former flutist, laura was introduced to the bassoon in high school, at the suggestion of her band director.

• 2008 marks the 10 year anniversary of Laura's membership with the Quintet of the Americas

• Distinguished composer Klaus Roy wrote "Duet in an Ancient Style" for Laura and her husband, bassist Jordan Frazier.
