Bassoon, SUNY Fredonia

Greetings bassoonists!

I am honored to be a part of the distinguished faculty of the School of Music at SUNY Fredonia.  There is so much that excites me about the School of Music.
The environment is supportive and nurturing, and there is a wide range of musical experiences that only a large and established music school can offer.  The curriculum for bassoonists is comprehensive, and includes weekly master classes, reed-making class, and chamber music, including our newly-formed Double Reed Ensemble!  Recent guest artists presenting master classes here include Frank Morelli, Albie Micklich, and Christopher Weait.
The bassoon studio has it’s own reed room, which is equipped with a gouging machine, a profiler, and shapers.  It is a great place for not only learning and perfecting your reed making, but also for sharing ideas with other members of the bassoon studio.  In addition, the school owns many bassoons for your use, including three Heckel bassoons, two Puchner bassoons, and a Puchner Contrabassoon.
I hope I can be of assistance as you go through your audition and decision-making process. Consider attending our annual Double Reed Day, held in the fall. I encourage you to come and visit the school before your audition. I would be happy to meet you and offer you a lesson, as well as answer any questions you may have.  Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.
Best Wishes,
Laura Koepke
